hey guys,
I was having idling problems with my 84 vanagon ... bad shaking at stops... like the thing was gonna shake a part.. I cleaned the magentic strip and realized after some reading that the if there are section where its wore down pretty bad that would cause the weird change in power and cause the engine to do what mine was doing.. I noticed that where mine started on the magnetic strip was wore down to the circuit board.. LOL.. so by loosening the center screw and moving the connector to the magnetic strip a head of the bad wear solved the problem.. I've owned my vangon for three years and it never run this good ever !!!!!!!!!! Dave Beadle RE , poor running vw 89 carravelle(vanagon] fixed problem , temp sensor near thermostat , connection poor, cleaned, hasnt missed a beat since jim
I installed the capacitor and while I was in there I tightened the spring on the air flapper (250k mi)so it wont open at the slightest touch. It fixed the bucking and stalling and I am getting a lot better mileage. I had previously cleaned all the grounds and did a tune up. kevlid
Best solution is to open the AFM and increase the spiral spring tension CW and that's it. I just went through a lot due to this AFM failure. Ono
