Model/Type: All Watercooled Vanagon
Dashboard Control Levers:
The top lever is for the windshield defroster vents. Left closed. Right open
The second lever is the temperature controller. Left cold. Right hot
The third lever is for the interior vents. Left is open. Right is closed.
The fourth lever is for fresh air in the rear of the van coming out of the
vents above the sliding door and opposite side if it's a passenger van. Left opens outside air to the rear.

Rear Heater:
The rear (underseat) heater has a shutoff valve for coolant (heat)
control. Pulled forward it's open for heat. Pushed aft it's shut.
That valve is, of course, only in one line so the heater core is always
subject to cooling system pressure.

Ed Note: Do not shut the control valve completely. It's best to keep a small amount of coolant flowing thru the core to prevent internal corrosion.

Dash Vents:
The dash air flow is controlled directly on each dash vent.
Up is closed, down is open.
Dash air is NOT heated in '87 & older vans.
Dash air can be heated (via the 2nd lever) on '88 & newer vans.
(Some late 87 vans had the dash heat.)
