For What It's Worth
Refrigerator Madness

Installing an automatic re ignitor obtained from an RV shop would help starting the refrigerator and keep it going once it is started just hook it up to 12volts through a switch and plug the high tension lead from the manual piezo igniter to it it senses when there is flame between the ignitor and ground and shuts off and automatically starts again when there is no flame.

I recently pulled and performaed a thourgh cleaning of a vanagon fridge, blew out all the lines and cleaned the gas orofice ect. I benched tested it before putting it back in the van I even installed a new 1 way check valve and rebuilt the air pump. it lights up fine and appears to be working properly when I adjust the thermostat the flame gets smaller/larger. but the fridge wont get cold on propane. when I hook it up to 110v or 12v it gets cold and even makes ice. MY guess is that the thermostat is not allowing enough propane foe a big enough flame, the tube that gets heated is warm but not as hot as when in 110v/12v I used air pressure again to purge the gas lines and the flow coming out of the jet is fine. any ideas?

thank you for your informative discussion about lp vw camper refrigerators. I am recently a first time owner of a vw camper and am trying to gain some knowledge as to what can happen in the future. Also I know that lp stands for liguid propane but how to fill the tank on the side of the van with what kind of connector or what the supply canister looks like is still to be learned.. that's how green I am! Ihave emailed bus depot about this. But from what you say and about the `12 v system, I will stay away from using the battery.
